Ok. So I just moved from Chicago. I am biased by eating some of the best Mexican food in the world. I'm not kidding.. I would describe this restaurant as very good Mexican/American food. My go-to is tacos. I tried to substitute lettuce and tomato for onion and cilantro.. It didn't work. Just get them with lettuce and tomato. Neither the green or red salsa was great. My margarita was great. The chips are very good. The preparation of my tacos was great (I had all four options). The tacos were baked and the corn tortillas were perfect. Flavor was very good. They were good. I feel that if you want American/Mexican food then you'll be happy. Or if you do not know what authentic Mexican tastes like, you'll like this place. I do like authentic though and this is not it. I'll still come back though, just with different expectations.

Very disappointed in a restaurant I have used and recommended in the past. As a part of my order, I ordered two tacos ala carte. The menu price indicated that they were priced at $2.99 each or two for $4.99. However, when I got my bill I was charged $2.99 for each taco and they explained that since I had ordered on beef and one chicken that they are priced the single price. I requested to see the menu and it certainly did not say that when I read it. Soon, the manager showed up to tell me I was wrong and did not change the charge. I felt that I was steam rolled and discounted. The dissatisfaction of a customer over $1.00 seems like a very poor business decision to me. There are far too many other very fine Mexican restaurants in Fort Wayne. Subsequent to my review, the owner contacted me and did a wonderful follow up on my situation from the night before. I was pleased with the tenor of the response and an honest and sincere effort to make things right. While a gift certificate was offered I declined since I was not looking for something free. I do appreciate the apology and the efforts to correct the situation. Based on the fast response, apology and an honest effort to make things right, I am willing to give them another chance. Thanks Christina.

I don't know...we have yet to find decent Mexican food since moving from Chicago to Ft. Wayne. We pulled into the lot and I was about to look this place up on Yelp and my phone died, I thought I should live on the edge and try a place without looking it up on Yelp - boy was I sorry! First of all, the entrance to this place is weird. It was unclear where to go in and it took a minute for them to realize we were waiting for table. We agreed to sit in the noisy bar area for dinner. I should have left when I saw they were pouring salsa out of plastic jugs they carry around everywhere. The salsa tastes like tomato sauce and the food and service left a lot to be desired.

Horrible . Waited an hour for food and then dessert was brought out first. Orders were wrong or forgotten altogether.

The salsa tastes like tomato paste, and for some reason the water tasted off as well. Our waitress was quirky and a bit weird, but nice enough and attentive. The food was mediocre at best. I would hardly call it food worth going out and paying for. Service was good, food was not.

This place is terrible. Salsa is horrid. Food is way overpriced and the dining experience is lacking at best.

They have TERRIBLE customer service. The waitress acted like we bothered her when we asked questions about the menu and was rude when she did respond. We waited an hour for food and then received food that a dog probably would not eat! 2 men in our party who eat almost anything tried to eat the chicken nachos. Both thought they were awful so we told our waitress. The waitress said that's how they are suppose to taste. The Manger then came and said they were exactly how the waitress described them so all she could do was give him a different kind of chicken or box it up. We had already waited an hour... what? Wait another hour? We will NEVER eat there again!

The salsa tastes like tomato paste. The enchiladas taste like they were from a frozen meal. On our way to the restaurant we said, "Let's give El Azteca a try. There really aren't any bad Mexican restaurants." We were very wrong. Everything tastes as if you had just brushed your teeth. From the soda to the tomatoes. What an awful dining experience we had. Try somewhere else.

This used to be the "place to go" for Mexican fare I'm Ft. Wayne. My family went there a few months back only because we were in the area. Ordered the large chicken nachos and I would challenge anyone to actually find a decent piece of chicken on the plate. In the past a large nacho plate would at the very least be sufficient for two average adults. My young daughter could have ordered it for her main entree and still would have left hungry. There are too many other fine Mexican Restaurants in Ft. Wayne to waste take time with this place.

I have loved Azteca for as long as I can remember. My family used to live in Fort Wayne and now every time we return we make a point to stop at Azteca before leaving town. The food is great and the atmosphere is friendly and festive. I told my parents I was driving from Michigan to Indiana and my father requested (read: demanded) that I please make a stop and bring him some salsa. This is the level of obsession we're talking here. :) Also, the pink cadillac marg! Do it!

I had not been here in years and decided to try it again. Got here early bc I thought it would be a long wait on a Friday night. Extremely disappointing. The worst margaritas I have ever had. Crescent the first pitcher back bc they had the strangest taste. The Fideo Soup was a joke. Obviously, not the same owners. Don't waste your time. Try Cebollas. I won't be back.

Update after owners message to me: For those who are looking for Americanized Mexican food (Tex Mex), this may be an establishment for you to enjoy, but for my husband and I who enjoy "New Mexican Cuisine" or "Authentic Mexican" the food was lacking. When I rate Mexican I look for spices, heat and real Mexican cheeses. First, my rating has to do with the meal leaving nothing memorable other than I knew I didn't want to come back. Second, the salsa was memorable because it lacked any flavor. I felt like I was dipping chips into tomato water. The salsa was the first thing to hit the table therefor it gave me my first impression of the restaurant.

Yum! Great margaritas & tasty Mexican food. Try a small pitcher of margaritas with Horintos Reposado on the rocks!

My sisters and I stopped to refuel after finishing a half-marathon and were kind of disappointed. It wasn't that anything was really wrong, It's just that nothing was really right. I got the crispy nachos, as suggested by the server. They were fine, but nothing to write home about. My sisters' meals were equally unremarkable. As a disclaimer, my sisters and I have lived in places with great, authentic Mexican food. Fort Wayne doesn't fit that description, so the type of Americanized Mexican food we found at El Azteca was a lot like the food you would find at most standard Mexican restaurants. A lot of people would be totally fine with that because it is what they are used to.

Great mexican food and super fast service. Much better than the other Mexican places in Fort Wayne. Wish they were located downtown though.

I will keep this simple...do not go for the food but do have a drink or two. The salsa is extremely runny and a little odd tasting but the chips are so very good. You should try the Queso Blanco Cheese dip it's good, but not great. Our meals were not appetizing at all. A kid could have made a better meal. We tried the Green Iguana Margarita! Very delicious and strong. Defenitily recommend it!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Not my favorite Mexican restaurant in Fort Wayne.
